Women offer to work as undercover agents in Guj

Ahmedabad: Gujarat is witnessing a rise in number of women willing to work as intelligence officers with state CID (intelligence), the key factor being the ‘aura’associated with the job. During the last (year) enrolment of the state police, out of 57 aspirants directly recruited as IOs, 30 per cent were women, which is the highest so far for undercover agents, officials said without giving the exact number.

Those recruited include housewives, employees of corporate firms, engineers among others, chairman of recruitment board for sub-inspectors, Ashish Bhatia said.The recruited team is trained in vigilance, information gathering and undercover operations for nine months at Karai Police Academy in the state capital by the intelligence wing of the office of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), he said.

Online e Paper - Journalist Shot Dead in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: A journalist with a Hindi daily was shot dead in Etawah, home district of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Police said the incident took place in the Bakewar area as he was returning home after the day’s work.

Rakesh Sharma, 50, had just reached home late Friday when a telephone call made him set out on his bike again, heading for Bakewar, an official said. Unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted the journalist at Bharthana Road and pumped bullets into him.

New Delhi: The BJP is leaving no stone unturned to put the government on the mat over the issue of price rise.  Party leader Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday gave three onion as Raksha Bandhan gift to women who came to tie Rakhi to him. Naidu, who visited Hyderabad to attend a press meet, stumbled on the unique idea for a token protest over the spiraling prices.

  Delhi BJP leader Sunil Yadav presented women with 2kgs of onions. The BJP leaders decided to give away two kg of onions to women at the JJ camps located near the official residences of PM Manmohan Singh and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.
